The Black Opera’ was Opera IX’s third album, and first for their new label Avantgarde Music. It was recorded at Studio Underground (Madder Mortem, October Tide, Carnal Forge) in Sweden and was produced and engineered by Pelle Saether .
Released in 2000, the album attracted praise due to the characteristic, varied and uncommon (especially at the time) black metal vocals of front-woman Cadaveria, mixed with other cleaner vocal styles to compliment the music.
A conceptual, very dark and occult melodic metal album, ‘The Black Opera’ closes with a rendition of ‘Bela Lugosi's Dead’ by Bauhaus.
